What Youβll Build
A launcher that uses a pull-cord mechanism to spin a disc at high speed, then releases it to fly through the air. Think beyblade launcher meets frisbee.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Shape the Disc
Use the rotary tool to smooth the edges of a plastic disc blank. Sand any rough spots. Optionally cut notches for aerodynamics.
Step 2: Add Weight
Glue small weights around the rim of the disc. This increases angular momentum β the disc will spin longer and fly straighter.
Step 3: Build the Launcher Body
Construct a handle from a dowel or craft sticks. Drill or cut a center channel for the launch rod.
Step 4: Make the Ripcord Mechanism
Wrap string around the notched launch rod. When pulled, the string spins the rod. The rod engages the disc, spinning it up to speed.
Step 5: Assemble and Test
Insert the launch rod through the discβs center bearing, place in the launcher body, and pull the cord sharply. The disc should spin off the rod and fly.
Step 6: Optimize
Try different disc weights, cord lengths, and pull speeds. Heavier rim = longer spin. Smoother bearing = less friction.
